Dr. Alain Gauthier
Dr. Alain Gauthier is an Associate Professor in the School of Human Kinetics and Acting Director of the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research at Laurentian University. He obtained his Master's degree from the University of Ottawa, and then became the first graduate from the Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Rural and Northern Health in 2009, and was supported by a CIHR doctoral research award. He has also completed a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Ontario Training Centre in Health Services and Policy Research.
Dr. Gauthier's current research interests revolve around health promotion and health services. He is committed to informing the development of health promotion initiatives aimed at vulnerable populations, including children, men, and sociolinguistic minorities. He currently leads the Francophone Health research program at the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research (CRaNHR), focusing on French language health services for citizens of northern Ontario. In particular, his research seeks to better understand the services provided by family physicians for Francophones in the north.
With ECHO, Dr. Gauthier has developed strong ties with Public Health Sudbury & Districts, acting as a Public Health Consultant for the organization. He has many community partnerships with local agencies.
