Dr. Elizabeth Levin
Dr. Elizabeth Levin is the former Chair of the Department of Psychology at Laurentian University. She is a member of the Psychology, the Interdisciplinary Health and the Human Studies graduate programs. Dr. Levin has been seconded to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine since 2012 where she serves as the Division Head of the Human Sciences Division.
Dr. Levin graduated from McGill with an Honors Bachelor of Science before obtaining both a Master’s and a Doctorate in child psychology from The University of Waterloo. Her research on both parenting and children’s conceptions of parenting is important to her work as a registered clinical psychologist. Dr. Levin consults with several agencies to provide services to children and families, and with the media on issues pertaining to parenting and child development. Dr. Levin also conducts research related to mental health, learning disabilities and psychological assessments. She recently developed the course in Health Psychology which incorporates problem-focused learning, based on her experience with case-based learning at NOSM.
Dr. Levin works with graduate students from a variety of programs who are striving to improve the health outcomes of youth. This includes work on bullying, barriers to seeking mental health, school needs of children with autism and the development of play based programs for children with special needs in Saudi Arabia.
