Dr. Sylvie Larocque

Dr. Sylvie Larocque is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and a faculty member for the Interdisciplinary PhD in Rural and Northern Health. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Laurentian University, she worked as a registered nurse at Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto. She next accepted a teaching position at Laurentian University, before completing an MSc (Infirmière) from Montreal University and working at Sainte-Justine Hospital for Children. Following this, she accepted a permanent teaching position within the School of Nursing at Laurentian University, where she has now taught for over 20 years. Dr. Larocque obtained a PhD from the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta in 2006.
Her clinical expertise is in pediatrics, and comprises the care of children and their families. Dr. Larocque’s research interests include the impact of chronic illness on children and their families, family-centered care, career plans of nursing graduates, and educational and health issues involving Francophone populations in northern and rural communities. For her doctoral and master's thesis work, she looked at the experience of adolescents living with a sibling diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis.
